Manchester CityPremier League club Manchester City is rolling out Wi-Fi and live mobile video in its Etihad stadium, in a move that it says will make it “the Premier League’s most technologically fan-friendly stadium”.

City will become the second Premier League club to add Wi-Fi to their stadium after Liverpool FC, The Next Web reports, with an “intelligent high-density Wi-Fi network” delivered by O2 rolling out over the coming weeks. Perhaps more interesting, however, is the news that City will also offer Cisco’s StadiumVision Mobile, which can deliver live video to fans’ mobiles. As yet, there are no details of what this will entail or how it will work, although it is easy enough to imagine replays of key points in the game and real-time player stats via a second-screen app.

“With the ground and its immediate vicinity offering ubiquitous connectivity, we will soon be able to provide full talk and texting capabilities, while paving the way for exciting new mobile data applications and services – such as mobile video – that will ensure a visit to the Etihad Stadium continues to be one of the best sports experiences available anywhere in the world,” says Manchester City chief commercial and operating officer Tom Glick.
